Poster Month | Day 18 | GD
Today’s poster is an exploration of the letters G and D - for Griffin Design. In my career, I’ve had two iterations of my personal branding.
The first was Griffin Grafix. I always regretted spelling it like that. I would always have to explain it, spell it, etc. But, the domain was available and I’ve always believed that your brand is successful because of what you do with it more than what it inherently is.
Over time, I did far more than just “graphics”. I was a webmaster, a marketer, a strategist. My deliverable was less about the thing and more about the thinking behind the thing. So, I changed my personal branding to Think Griff. That’s served me well for many years now, but I think it’s time to add a new wrinkle.
Design and art are two different things in my mind. Design isn’t about self-expression as much - it’s about expressing the values of the client and finding intersection with the value of their customers. Art, on the other hand, can be 100% an expression of me.
In this next iteration I’m kicking off soon, I will have a separate site and experience around my graphic art - John Griffin Design. I’ve rediscovered my love of graphic design after Poster-a-Day May and the David Carson Masterclass.
So thinkgriff.com will soon morph into the design, leadership and strategy part of my work - the enterprise stuff, while johngriffin.design (under construction) will become the art side of the house.
Size: 18” x 24”. Limited run of 10. Matte coating. Signed and numbered.
